Do you have plans to visit the breathtaking Namibia to explore? Then it is important to know that something will change from April 1, 2025: Dutch citizens will then need a visa to enter the country. But don't worry, I will explain exactly what you need to do to make your trip go smoothly.

What exactly is changing?

Until now, we Dutch citizens could travel to Namibia without a visa for holidays up to 90 days. But from 1 April 2025, the Namibian government will introduce a visa requirement for 31 countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. This means that you must arrange a visa before your trip.

Namibia Visa

How do you apply for a visa?

You have two options:

  1. Visa on Arrival (VOA): Upon arrival in Namibia, you can obtain a visa at the airport. Paper forms will have to be filled in manually. The cost for this is NAD 1.600, which is approximately €80 per person.
  2. Electronic Visa (e-Visa): To avoid waiting times, you can book in advance Apply for an e-Visa online through the official Namibian government website. The cost and validity are the same as the visa on arrival.

Important tips:

  • Passport requirements: Make sure your passport is valid for at least six months upon departure from Namibia.
  • Travel with children: Children need their own passport. In addition, you must be able to show a birth certificate for children under 18. See: netherlandsworldwide.nl
  • Health declarations: If you are coming from a country with a high risk of yellow fever, or have made a transfer there, a vaccination certificate against yellow fever is mandatory. You also need other vaccinations for Namibia, such as DTP and Hepatitis A. Make an appointment at Vaccinations while traveling and get advice from a professional.

Why this change?

The Namibian government decided to introduce this visa requirement to gain more control over tourism and improve border security, and to ensure reciprocity with countries that have similar visa requirements for Namibian citizens.

Conclusion

Don’t be discouraged by this new rule; Namibia remains a destination that will capture your heart with its vast landscapes and rich culture. Just make sure you arrange your visa in time, and you’re set for an unforgettable adventure!
