When you say Cambodia, many people will still immediately think of the chilling history of The Killing Fields, the indelible epitome of the brutality of the Khmer Rouge in the 70s. But we would be doing the country much too short if we only open this black page in Cambodian history. Cambodia, located in Southeast Asia and surrounded by Laos. , Thailand and Vietnam, is an exceptionally beautiful country with many untouched natural landscapes and ancient cities. The temples hidden here in the inhospitable jungles are perhaps the most impressive in all of Asia.

The most beautiful temples in Asia

The capital of Cambodia is Phnom Penh. It is a city with two faces. On the one hand, you will find the splendor of a cultural gem in this Asian country. Just visit the Royal Palace or the Silver Pagoda. On the other hand, you will find here the hard evidence of the genocide during the reign of the Khmer Rouge. The Killing Fields can be seen here, tangible and still gruesome. Nevertheless, a visit to this is a must for every traveler. Another signature city in Cambodia is Siem Reap with the glorious temples of Angkor Wat in its vicinity. This complex is immeasurably large with hundreds of buildings and temples close together. Rent a bike and cross recommended Preah Khan, Bayon, Ta Prohm and Banteay Srei. Other important cities in Cambodia are Battambang and Kratie.

Cambodian nature

The nature in Cambodia is surprisingly beautiful and in some places still pure and hidden. Small islands where hardly any tourists come, the relaxed beaches at the coast of Sihanoukville, for example, the funny Koh Rong known as 'Monkey Island', but also the dense jungle in the interior at Sisophon and the quiet eastern part of Cambodia that borders on the Mekong. Other great places are the crater lake of Boeng Yeak Laom and the waterfalls of Chaa Ong.
