Estonia

Home » Europe » Estonia

Estonia in Northern Europe is one of the Baltic countries and borders Russia, Latvia, the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Finland. We mainly know Estonia from anything but high-quality football matches against the Dutch national team. That's a shame because in this small country with less than 1,5 million inhabitants, there is plenty to do for a travel enthusiast like you! The country has capricious bays, peninsulas with forests, waterfalls and lakes. You will mainly find these in Estonia's most beautiful nature reserve; Lahemaa National Park. But the biggest tourist attractions are the major cities of Tallinn and Tartu.

Tallinn and Tartu

Take, for example, the charismatic capital Tallinn. The old town, situated on a hill, is a little trip down memory lane. Orthodox churches, monasteries and cathedrals, various museums and an impressive cultural heritage show Estonia at its best in this city. Another important city is Tartu, a university city in the south of the country. The Raadhuisplein Raekoja plats is the place where students, teachers and other Estonians come together in a friendly way.

The Estonian Islands

Estonia has a long coastline of 3.794 km. Off this coast you will find countless islands, many of which are uninhabited. In total we count no less than 1500 small pearls. The largest island is Saaremaa where you will find the city of Kuressaare. Also located here is the national park of Vilsandi rahvuspark, an important attraction. Be sure to visit the islands of Muhu, Hiiumaa and the Kõpu peninsula. Estonia is a country with beautiful lakes, rolling highlands and charming villages. Reason enough to take a closer look at this Baltic country.
