It was always my dream to go backpacking in Venice and my dream came true :). I had already seen a lot of cities in Italybut Burano was also on my list. So I saw a cheap ticket to Bologna. I looked at the map and saw that Bologna is close to Venice. Without hesitation, I booked a ticket with Ryanair. A few weeks later I was walking through the streets of Bologna. 1. Stroll through the streets
Backpacking in Venice has a lot to offer and is incredibly busy! Although I think the crowds will not be too bad during the Corona period. The nice thing about Venice is that there are many narrow streets and there are nice shops everywhere, both expensive and cheap. Tired of watching? Then settle down on a terrace and enjoy the view. Keep in mind that Venice is more expensive than the rest of Italy. Usually you also pay extra service costs. So don't be alarmed if you sit on a terrace on San Marco square and enjoy the view and the music and then pay a bill of 80 euros for it. shocking, we always asked about the extra price, because we didn't feel like surprises.
Good to Know is that feeding pigeons in Venice is out of the question. If you do so, you can expect a hefty fine. Only limited time in Venice? Then do a Venice free walking tour. This way you get to see a lot of the city in no time.

2. Stay at Camping Rialto
Venice is expensive and if you are traveling for a month you want to keep the costs as low as possible. We saw that staying in the center was extremely pricey. Hmm, there goes our budget.
Coincidentally we found a campsite called Camping Rialto for a cheap price. I had never been to a campsite in my life, but I thought why not? Let's give it a try! We stayed for next to nothing in a beautiful chalet. It was a lot of fun, because there were also other travelers from Argentina. Breakfast was not included, but opposite the campsite there was an XXL Lidl where we got our fresh bread rolls every day. After breakfast we took the bus to the center. This took about 20 minutes.

3. Take a trip to Burano
write it down, Burano it is! This village is so colourful, car-free and incredibly beautiful. Mamma Mia, you open your eyes. You can reach Burano by boat and the nice thing about this village is that all the houses have a different color. To go from Venice to Burano you will spend about 20 euros. This money is well worth it. At first I thought that after a few hours I would have had enough, but that was not the case.
We met an old grandpa and grandma and they were so sweet and showed us their colored house inside. It was very intense that they also showed a photo of their deceased son. He was involved in a motorcycle accident. They did have a bright spot that made them happy and that was the arrival of a tiny yellow chick.

I'm not exaggerating, but I really took maybe 1000 photos in Burano. A photo at a pink house, at a yellow house, a green house? Each house was unique and of course I had to take a picture. So if you are going to visit Burano, charge your camera well and let's shoot.
Tip: in Burano there are almost no supermarkets. Do your shopping before you go to Burano. We had bought sandwiches in advance from the supermarket and generously topped them. This way you have a delicious lunch and it is also budget-friendly.

5. Discover other cities near Venice
Venice has an ideal location and is ideal to stay for a few days. This city is romantic, cozy and elegant. But if you want to go to another city, you also have various options. Within 2 hours you are in the student city of Bologna. Do you feel like, gosh I want to go to another country? Then visit the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana. Bologna and Ljubljana are easy to reach by car. I myself have visited these cities with the FlixBus.
