A hot air balloon ride

For a majestic, less physically demanding way to see Israel from above, try a hot air balloon. From 500 meters far above the land, standing in a basket, the romance of flying in a hot air balloon is uniquely infectious. Hot air balloons in Israel are becoming increasingly popular with Israelis and travelers and take place in both the Galilee and Negev, with some of the most breathtaking trips high above the hills of Galilee in the Gilboa area.

In northern Israel, hot air balloons offer breathtaking views of the green land, hills and valleys, and pretty little villages. In the Negev in southern Israel, one can travel above the rocky desert, contemplate geographic wonders and witness some remarkable green settlements from above, as well as Bedouin farms and perhaps even spot some of the animals that inhabit this harsh place.

Canyoning in Israel

Canyoning is an extreme sport that has become increasingly popular in Israel. Both in the Negev desert and in the rugged Golan Heights, the diverse landscapes offer plenty of opportunities for canyoning, a sport in which you climb down a cliff (with a harness on, of course).

The real adventure is the various climbs and descents, overcoming the obstacles, sometimes even by swimming, all in a breathtaking environment with an astonishing view of nature! The most beautiful and deepest gorges in Israel have waterfalls up to 120 meters high and are located in the area of the Dead Sea, the Golan Heights and in the Eilat Mountains.

Canyoning in Israel

The best time of year for canyoning in the south of the country and the Dead Sea area in particular is from October to April. In the north of Israel, the activity can take place during the summer months, and at the Black Canyon in the Golan Heights, arguably the most impressive canyon in Israel, the water you walk or swim through makes for a great way to cool off in the summer months. Of course, due to the nature of this activity, travelers must do canyoning in Israel with an organized group or a licensed guide.

Kayaking and rafting on the Jordaan River

Kayaking or rafting on the Jordan River may not quite fit people's first image of the Biblical stories, but once you've seen the river from a kayak on a hot summer day, you'll see it very differently! And it is not an activity reserved for extreme sports. The kayaks on the Jordaan are not ordinary kayaks, but rather large inflatable rafts for two to five people. The kayaking centers are all located in Upper Galilee, north of the Sea of Galilee, where the Jordan River is a wider river than in the south.

A resident of Kibbutz Kfar Blum came up with the idea of kayaking on the river in 1986. Now some kibbutzim in the region offer kayaks and rafts along the Hatzbani River, all the way to the Jordan River. The standard routes take about an hour and a half, although many extend this by stopping at the lush grassy banks for a break. In Kfar HaGoshrim, the kayak route includes a kayak ramp. The kibbutz has a family route for families with children from the age of five - four miles long - which takes about an hour. There is also a route that takes two hours.
