Category - Peru
Peru is located on the west coast of South America. This country is located between Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia and Chile, lies against the Pacific Ocean and has almost 30 million inhabitants. Peru is most famous for its Inca culture. The Inca ruins are still an important attraction. The best-known example of this is, of course, Machu Picchu, which was declared one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007. Rightly so! But there is more in Peru. The inhospitable Andes Mountains run right through the country and the natural beauty of the Amazon can also be found here. The pet of Peru is the spitting llama, you see this funny animal all over the country.
Amazon and Andes
Most travelers come to Peru to hike the Inca Trail and eventually admire Machu Picchu. The Incas lived around the 15th century and reached many heights in a short time. Eventually the Spaniards killed them and the Indians were exterminated. Fortunately, there are still many silent witnesses of this mystical people in the form of temples and fascinating ruins. Peru has three landscapes. The Amazon Lowlands (la selva) together with the Andes Mountains (la sierra) define a large part of the Peruvian landscape. The highest mountain is Nevado Huascarán (6768 m). But don't forget the coastline, Peru's third landscape.
Iquitos, city without roads
The capital of Peru is Lima. With its old center full of beautiful buildings and charismatic neighborhoods, this city is well worth a visit. Don't forget to visit Iquitos, a city that is located in the middle of a rainforest. If you want to get there, you will have to travel either by water or by air. Iquitos is the only city in the world without land access roads. Also special is an introduction to the Uros, a people who live on Lake Titikaka.
