Algeria

Home » Africa » Algeria

Algeria is a large, predominantly Muslim country in North Africa. From the Mediterranean coast, where most people live, Algeria stretches southward deep into the heart of the Sahara; an ominous desert that has recorded the highest surface temperatures on Earth and covers more than four-fifths of the country's surface. The Sahara and its extreme climate dominate the country.

History, language, customs and an Islamic heritage make Algeria an integral part of the Maghreb and the wider Arab world, but the country also has a significant Amazigh (Berber) population, with ties to that cultural tradition.

Algeria remains a relatively unknown destination among travelers. Pristine Sahara, beautiful coastline, wonderful cultural attractions, bustling cities and mouth-watering food, Algeria is the place to visit if you want to get off the beaten track.
