South Korea
South Korea is located in Asia and was part of Korea until 1945. Now Korea consists of South Korea and North Korea and as is known, these are not the thickest of friends. There is still a lot of tension between the two countries. South Korea consists of no fewer than 3000 islands that lie off the western and southern coasts. The capital is Seoul, a bustling metropolis with an impressive center.
American influences
South Korea is a modern and western country, which is in quite a prosperous state. The American cultural influence is great: McDonalds, PizzaHut and Dunkin' Donuts dominate the streets, and American rock blares from many loudspeakers.
Cities in South Korea
Of course Seoul is the main city. Seoul consists of 25 so-called city districts and is located on the Han River. The city is now 600 years old and is inhabited by 11 million people. Seoul is therefore one of the most densely populated cities in the world. If you include the inhabitants of the suburbs, you quickly arrive at 22 million inhabitants. Other cities in South Korea are the port city of Busan, Daegu, Daejon and Gwangju.
Islands and mountain scenery
South Korea is also a good place for nature lovers. Besides the many islands, of which Jeju is the largest, there is much more to experience. A good example is Dadohae National Marine Park. This park also consists of many islands. Especially Dochodo is truly phenomenal. Unprecedented beautiful beaches where you can enjoy in peace. The interior of South Korea also consists of a lot of mountain landscape. Chuncheon is a place nestled between vast lakes: a favorite travel destination among South Koreans themselves.
