India. The fairytale land of the Maharajas and their majestic temples. The land of the holy Gandhi, the holy cow and the holy river Ganges. Of bathing Hindus and mystical ceremonies. The country of...
Few countries are as magical and enchanting as India, the land of the Mahatma Gandhi. Here faith and tradition go hand in hand with culture and beautiful nature. Ancient temples, golden palaces of Maharajas but also overcrowded cities with millions of people and the chaos of the noisy street life. You have to be able to handle it. India has many faces and likes to show them all. Do you want beach? Then you get beach. Do you want mountains? Then you get the highest mountains in the world. And do you want desert? Even then you are in the right place in India!
Capital Delhi and second city Mumbai – which is actually bigger than Delhi – are by far the most impressive cities. But it is precisely the small places that surprise. The spiritual Varanasi, for example, with Hindus who wash en masse in the holy Ganges early in the morning. Or Calcutta, Orissa and Chennai. In Jodhpur you will find the beautiful palaces of the Maharajas within the fortress. And Jaipur and Jaisalmer, two cities with their own culture. A visit to the Taj Mahal is of course a must. The most beautiful route in India is the Golden Triangle, which leads past Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.
From beach and desert to mountains and jungle
India is large and very versatile, which is reflected in the diversity of nature. Stunning beaches, for example in the state of Goa, but also sky-high mountain ranges such as at Ladahk in the Himalayas. Camel safaris through the Thar desert are effortlessly followed by jungle treks in one of the many national parks. Many wild animals cross your path. India is all-encompassing and never boring. A beautiful country for the seasoned traveler!
