Preparing to sell a house

Last time we told them that the real estate agent has visited and that the pictures of the house had already been taken. A few days later, our house was also measured and the floor plans were made. After that, our house officially went up for sale.

We are regularly asked whether we find it strange to see our own house for sale on the internet. Of course it is a bit strange somewhere, but we mainly see our adventure getting closer. We have made the choice with full dedication and fully support it, which makes it feel like the right decision.

The viewings

The viewings were held last week. That was just as exciting. Every morning we left the house extra tidy to give the viewers the best possible impression. It is nice when a house is tidy and clean. After each viewing day, we received a call from the broker with an update on how the viewings had gone.

Preliminary purchase contract

We have now accepted an offer and we are going to sign the preliminary purchase contract! It gives a good, nice, reassuring feeling when the house is sold (subject to change). It was an exciting couple of weeks.

The transfer of our house will take place at the end of June. For us, this means that we will have to bridge more than a month until we really go on the road. We will temporarily stay with our parents/in-laws, rent a holiday home or live in our camper if we have one by then.

Cleaning up, decluttering and selling

In the meantime we have sold stuff. More and more furniture is also being 'reserved' for sale. Family, friends or colleagues regularly text to ask whether a certain item is still available. Now that the viewings have been completed, we can start cleaning up more. The intention is that we will also be selling stuff on King's Day. A fun way to unwind (book here for sale). It will be a little less cozy in the house in terms of decoration in the last few weeks, but that's okay.

While cleaning up, we find out how much stuff we've collected in recent years. It is a small challenge to see what we really want to keep and what can go away. Not much will be preserved. Soon there will be no room for this and in fact we don't need much. We do ensure that, in principle, all items are given a second life by selling them or taking them to a thrift store.

Buy a suitable motorhome

The past two Saturdays we went looking for a suitable motorhome to buy. We had a great time! It was nice to get inspiration in real-life, instead of through advertisements and photos. We looked at several camper vans and motorhomes. We used the first Saturday to make a decision with which type of camper we would like to travel with. Last year we already rented a camper van. We then gained the experience that the space inside is quite limited. Because we want to travel for a long time, we think it is important that there is some space in our camper. Both space inside and some storage space. We have agreed together that we are looking for a motorhome, not a campervan.

What do we pay attention to when buying a motorhome?

We are now one step further, but there are still many steps to be taken. An important question is how long should the motorhome be at most? This will probably be a maximum of 7 meters. We like the idea if we can park somewhat easily and drive into the smaller streets. Furthermore, the bed, cooking facilities and storage space are important to us. We had our eye on two potential campers, but unfortunately these turned out not to be the right one for us.

We still have some time to look further. Next time we will go into more content about the camper. By this we mean which aspects are important for us to pay attention to.

Resign

We have told our employers about our plans, that we are going to sell our house and buy a camper. At that time we did not know when we would like to leave the service. When the preliminary purchase contract has been signed and the reflection period has passed, we will both hand in an official letter of resignation at work. We both enjoy our work. It is still a bit of an unreal feeling that we will have the last working day in a few months. But we are very much looking forward to the adventures ahead!
