Belize is located in Central America, bordering Mexico and Guatemala. Formely known as British Honduras, we now know the country mainly for its colorful coral reef, beautiful dive spots and Caribbean lifestyle. In the interior of Belize you can find beautiful jungles and the Mayan temples are definitely worth a visit. The country was once inhabited by the Maya – the Maya Mountains in the south are a silent witness to this – only to be taken over by the Spaniards and eventually fall into British hands. The country gained self-government in 1964 and was renamed Belize in 1973. Fun fact: Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom is still the official head of state.

Tropical islands

In the Caribbean Sea are a few beautiful islands that belong to Belize's property. Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker and the Turneffe Islands are coral islands that invite you to spend the night on its white beaches, enjoying the dark starry sky. Swimming trunks and bath towel, that's all you need. Diving is of course also possible, after all The Great Blue Hole is one of the most beautiful diving locations in the world for a reason. From Caye Caulker, all the beautiful reefs, coral islands and world-famous diving spots are easily accessible.

Mainland Belize

There is also plenty to see on mainland Belize. The archaeological find at Xunantunich is probably the great pride of Belize. The Community Baboon Sanctuary Game Reserve is home to a tropical rainforest, complete with baboons and unusual birds. Still sunbathing? Then continue to the seaside town of Placencia for a few days of water sports, swimming, camping and excursions to the rivers in nearby jungle.
