Traveling with VW T3 bus camper (4) | Spanish Lessons, Dolphin Tour and Surfing in Puerto Escondido

The end of our stay in Puerto Escondido in Mexico is over, this means that we can crawl behind the laptop again for a report. I would expect that after three weeks in the same place I wouldn't have much news to report. Still, our last days were a few to remember! We finished our Spanish lessons, went out, did a dolphin tour and took surf lessons in Puerto Escondido. In short: enough to tell!

Spanish lessons

We have now had three weeks of Spanish lessons, purely for the lessons I wouldn't mind staying one or two more weeks. You learn the language quickly. At school we lay the foundation and then (on the way home) we practice with a taxi driver, the waiter/waitress, people from the hostel and everyone we meet.

on the go

Anyway, time to move on. Friday we received our certificate and, yes my biggest hobby, we went out in the evening with our teachers. This was fun beyond expectations!

We didn't go home too late, because the alarm clock would go off at 5 in the morning for a dolphin tour, also with one of our teachers and also guide @Michelangeltourlifeguy.

Dolphin tour

With just under three hours of sleep behind us, we hit the road! When you're almost 30 (or in Dieke's case long past this), it's not so easy anymore. So a bit broke, but in good spirits we climbed on the boat and got out on the water for a three hour trip, which turned out to be well worth it!

I think we saw 100 dolphins, maybe we counted some double…, Dieke swam in sync with them for a while, at least 20 sea turtles that occasionally float to the surface and as icing on the cake on the way back we spotted 2 more whales next to the boat! Que Chido! Mexican slang for 'cool'!

Surf

Dieke's last surf lesson went really well, she finally got the hang of it and caught just about every wave! Unfortunately, of course, no pictures were taken on this day.

The last Friday afternoon was a bit to ourselves. Dieke also had on her wish list to spend an afternoon playing and helping at the local shelter. And after 6 surf lessons I've got a taste for it, so one more surf lesson for me to finish it?. This ended up being 2 hours of surfing, together with my surf teacher. There were two of us, he a board, me a board and completely autonomous waves?? pack or end up in the washing machine! With some tips, in case I want to rent a plank somewhere in the pocket, we said goodbye.

If you ever go to Puerto Escondido and want to take surf lessons, be sure to check out Queonda surf. Neri is a young, motivated guy with enough experience and he is building his own surf school.

Completely as agreed, Dieke returned later in the evening without a dog. Although I wouldn't have minded if she brought one, when you see those sweet faces! I'd rather wait until we get the bus...

Do we have a dance lesson? packed, visited a band, sweated a lot (this week it was hot and stuffy) and caught a last sunset ...

San Jose del Pacifico

After we packed our things we went to San José del pacifico! According to google San Mateo Rio Hondo, as well as the village of the same name 30 minutes away. This led to some confusion when we went to sort out the walking route?. A mountain village at an altitude of 2300m that is known for its beautiful nature, tranquility and the rich hallucinatory mushroom culture. However, now is not the season for this. To relax, cool down and sleep once without music until 2 am. We were in the clouds for a while! Literal…

Although it is off-season in San Jose, we were offered drugs. Unlike the rest of the travelers in our hostel, we didn't use it.

It reminds me of the moment during our night out in Puerto Escondido. I walked to the bathroom and someone asked 'are you okay?' and I cheerfully answer yeah! Until a few seconds later I was standing at the urinal with someone with a bag of white powder next to me. Turns out he asked 'You want cocaine?' With a little background music it sounds about the same. Then I thanked him kindly and kept it with a beer.

Now on to Oaxaca city!

Oh! And again received a message from the shipping company that delivered it shipping our camper arranges, timetable has changed slightly again; Kareltje arrives earlier?.

We, Rob, Dieke and the VW Syncro camper called Karel de Grote (our first bus was called Karel and you guessed it; this one is bigger) choose to drive from Mexico to Uruguay and so far we are (almost) completely satisfied top!
