You want to travel for a long time: are you going to give up everything or hybrid travel?

You like to travel. A travel the world† But are you going to give up everything, or are you going to travel and work at the same time, i.e. hybrid travel? When you step into my life, it's like everyone quit their job, put their house up for sale, and run away. All my clients are working on this, the people I have contact with often travel and because of this it seems as if 'everyone' has given up everything, burned the ships behind them and started traveling.

Give up everything or hybrid travel?

But, is giving up everything the only way? Or is a hybrid way of traveling also an option? For many people it will give peace of mind: give up everything and get on with life. No outstanding mortgages, no ties to employers; the world is then at your feet. But not everyone feels comfortable with this. And then I have good news for you: you are not just a adventurer if you give up everything. You're just as much of a hero as you choose a hybrid form of travel that makes you happy.

Because not for one thing or another; but that's kind of the purpose of our existence here, isn't it: that we behave somewhat meaningfully and pleasantly. Life is too short to feel structural stress. In fact, it has been scientifically proven that with a lot of stress your life is even shorter.

What do I mean by a hybrid form of travel?

Not black or white. Just travel when you want and be in a house when you want. I call that freedom of choice. Being able to choose where you prefer to be; that's freedom. Naturally; it feels really good when you are 'nothing' attached to it. But believe me; there comes a time when you realize that freedom is not in the absence of limitations, but in the presence of self-chosen limitations. For many people, giving up everything is the only option because they don't have the finances to cope otherwise. The surplus value of the house can provide them with good capital so that they can make the trip. Beautiful of course!

But not everyone will feel 'safe' with this. There will come a time when the bottom of the piggy bank is in sight. When you can absorb that by your own online company, you can apply that freedom of choice. Traveling then does not become an end in itself, but is a means to lead the life you want.

Giving up the pros and cons of everything

Giving up everything and burning all the ships behind you has a number of advantages:

  • It gives you peace of mind
  • It offers financial opportunities
  • Your future is completely open and will go 100% in a different direction than it did now

Disadvantages are:

  • It can cause anxiety in your head
  • It has limited financial options
  • Your future is completely open

Do you see where I want to go; everything has pros and cons. It's just what you believe. What you believe in.

Hybrid travel is often more sustainable

You keep a number of (self-chosen) ties to your current existence and create a number of new paths. For example, you can keep a house that you will rent out when you are not there. This allows you to create an income stream and your capital is not cashed in. You also have an 'emergency shelter'. (Provided that the rental contract allows this). You can also take your current work with you. Sometimes an employer is not stupid enough to let you go because you would like to work remotely: discuss it! That will give you fewer sleepless nights if your income is insured.

If you don't have work that can be done remotely, think about starting with a own company what to do on the go. You then create momentum and use the time that you are still at home. And if you do this consistently, by the time you travel, you'll have a great business generating your income wherever you are.

Hybrid travel is more sustainable because it often takes a little longer to prepare. You take more time to explore and work out the options. Does that make it a better way? No definitely not.

Again: the sole purpose of life is to live your life. And do it meaningfully and in a way that suits you. Do you like burning ships: get rid of all that 'ballast' then! If you want to keep freedom of choice: choose the hybrid version and keep a number of 'limitations' that will serve you in your new lifestyle.
