TRAVEL NEWS – January 25, 2021: The association of national and international airlines in Germany (BARIG), has announced in a news report that all airlines that fall under the association will introduce a mask requirement for all their flights.

The German air traffic industry is changing the rules regarding the mandatory wearing of a mask. This means that from February 1, 2021, all passengers, including children from the age of six, will German Airports and are required to wear medical face masks on board the respective aircraft.
Both surgical and FFP2 masks and masks that comply with the KN95 / N95 standard are allowed. A simple cloth face covering is no longer enough. Furthermore, visors, masks with an outlet and basic means such as scarves remain prohibited.
The modified mask wearing requirement applies in all passenger areas at German airports and on board aircraft of all member carriers. These include:
- Austrian Airlines
- Brussels Airlines
- Condor
- Eurowings
- Lufthansa
- Swiss International Air Lines and
- TUIfly

The obligation applies to both departing and arriving flights to Germany. The masks are provided by the passengers themselves.
BARIG is currently in close consultation with its international member airlines on the implementation of the respective requirements.
