COLUMN: NU.nl reported on July 4, 2024 that airline tickets will increase in just 5 years 84% more expensive in the Netherlands, mainly due to the ever-increasing air passenger taxes.

At the same time, neighboring countries Belgium and Germany have seen the number of passengers and flights increase drastically in recent years. The growth is mainly due to the enormous increase in Dutch travelers.

Dutch people continue to look for good deals

Dutch people love finding cheap deals. They're looking for the cheapest countries in the world to travel to and the flight that takes them there, they increasingly find just across the border.

The Netherlands is slowly pricing itself out of the market under the guise of the environment, which will cost the government dearly in the longer term. The lack of long-term vision cannot be denied.

Due to the ever-increasing taxes on airline tickets in our country, more and more airline tickets are now being sold just across the border, causing the Dutch state to miss out on airline taxes tens of millions of times a year from the state treasury.

Bullying holidaymakers away to our neighboring countries costs our public treasury billions every year. Neighboring countries Belgium and Germany are laughing their asses off in the meantime.

And the environmental problem? It moves about 100 kilometers east or south…
