Would you give up sex to travel? † 20% Americans say yes

TRAVEL NEWS – January 18, 2021: According to new research from Exodus Travel said 76 percent of the Americans that in 2020 it was more difficult to stay positive than in previous years. That's not to say it was impossible, though – and the survey of 2.000 internationally traveling respondents found that 79% believed embracing new hobbies is key to coping with the pandemic. 20% of respondents miss traveling so much that they are willing to give up sex completely in order to travel again. Optimism among Americans

The survey looked at the other factors contributing to this cautious approach to optimism — with "hope the pandemic will end in 2021" topping the list (52%). †

That was followed closely by the end of 2020 (51%), with the idea of ​​traveling more in 2021 (45%) to round out the top three. Also high on the list of why respondents are more hopeful was practicing a positive mindset (28%) and choose to believe that the future is full of possibilities (19%).

And while 75% said they will be following the news more closely in 2020 than ever before, 76% said a general restriction on screen time contributes to this positive feeling.

Commissioned by Exodus Travels and conducted by OnePoll, the survey explored respondents' mindsets and how they stay positive during this challenging time.

But for those who are, the secret may be simple: 82% said they made a conscious effort in 2020 to do things that make them happy. 64% percent have hobbies, and they were about twice as likely to identify as “very happy” than those with no hobbies (40% vs. 18%).

Of those with hobbies, 77% said they started new hobbies during the COVID-19 pandemic – about four on average. These hobbies aren't just a way to kill time either, as the results showed that 70% admitted to taking up hobbies that will benefit their future travel plans.

“I think we can all agree that 2020 was a real education,” said Robin Brooks, Marketing & PR Director of Exodus Travels. “We learned valuable lessons about human connections, the importance of science – and appreciating the little things in life. While it is true that things are still uncertain towards 2021, we have also learned a lot in the past year, and we have that on our side.

“It's heartwarming to see so many people turning their passion for global exploration inward – taking on new hobbies, subscribing to new ways of self-discovery – a third (34%) of those surveyed even started learning a new language. They take this time to learn new skills and interests that can shape their future travel experiences, and there's just something incredibly hopeful about that. †

Results found that hobbies can contribute to happiness, but it seems that travel does too: The survey found that 78% of respondents are happiest when they can travel.

And if they can't travel, some respondents look to adventures anyway. In an effort to make themselves happier, respondents read about vacations (49%), viewed travel programs (45%) and even looked at destination hotel options (44%).

Giving up sex to travel again

Yet there are also a lot of people who actually felt more unhappy. Seven in ten said a year without travel had a negative impact on their happiness, at the same time 57% are hopeful about 2021 again.

In fact, a third of respondents (36%) said that if they could make their perfect trip tomorrow, they would be willing to give up coffee or Netflix (34%) – while almost 20% would even give up sex to get back to it. to travel. Wow!

In 2021, respondents will prioritize travel to Europe (37%), Central America (36%) and Asia (34%), while 14% said they want to go “anywhere, anytime”.

And they are most likely to want to travel with their partner (56%), followed by their child (51%) and their friends (38%).

Anticipation: planning worldly travels

But while 67% said they will travel as soon as possible, respondents are also cautious.

The survey found that 77% are paying more attention to the businesses they travel with (hotels, tour groups, airlines, etc.) to ensure they are taking the right precautions against COVID-19.

“We all want to travel in 2021,” Brooks said. “But the health of our global community must come first. When it's safe to venture abroad again, it's imperative that everyone takes the proper precautions to stop the spread of COVID-19, including booking travel through companies and organizations that support small local businesses and the resources to protect their travelers and all people.
