TRAVEL NEWS (Press release) – June 29, 2022: South Sweden is getting ready for the coming camping season. Camping has been by far the most popular form of holiday among Dutch people in this part of Sweden. The campsite occupation took a natural dive during the two Corona years. Nevertheless, the sector registered more than 51.000 guest nights at campsites in southern Sweden last summer. That is more than 50% of the level in the record year 2019, an unexpected surprise, especially because the travel advice from the Dutch government was only greened on July 1, 2021. The massive return of the Dutch camper in southern Sweden underlines the popularity of the Skåne, Småland, Blekinge and Halland regions as camping destinations. Interest also appears to be high in 2022.
The new camping season in southern Sweden has a lot of new developments in store and is characterized by a wide range, aimed at different types of campers. All camping developments have one thing in common: nature is central.
Camping in style
Opens this summer Julared Glamping at Hagårds Lagård. Here you spend the night with a view of the starry sky and you wake up in the green forests of Småland. Two spherical tents stand in the yard of the Julared family farm, which dates back to the 17th century. The farm and associated glamping tents are still fully run by the Hagård family. The new glamping tents are fully equipped, including a king-size bed and sofa bed for up to two children. You can also camp in style on the island of Ven – located in the Sound between Denmark and Sweden. Bee Camp Ven you can stay in luxury safari tents with comfortable hotel beds. You don't even have to take care of breakfast here. During the day you can enjoy a breath of fresh air on the green island that is a short distance by boat from Landskrona.
Back to nature camping
The 1.300 km long hiking trail runs right through the southern region of Skåne Skåneleden† Directly along the route north of Helsingborg is Lägerplats Domsten. Don't expect luxury sanitary facilities or entertainment team here, here you pitch your tent in the middle of the forest, take a dip in nearby water and prepare your meal on an open fire. The canopy and fire pit are open year round. Also in Nyrups Nature Hotell in Höör you are in direct contact with nature. Just about everything takes place outside here: cooking, showering and all other activities. You only sleep in a unique yurt between the trees. The focus is on an intense experience of nature in the middle of the forest, without electricity, running water or wifi.

Camping by car
Halland's long coastline is known for its endless sandy beaches and green hinterland. This southwestern part of Sweden offers plenty of campsites, but the true coastal camper simply follows the coastal road from south to north. As you enter Halland from the south, the first town you come across is picturesque Laholm. Off the coast lies the seaside resort of Mellbystrand with campsite of the same name† The campsite is located directly on 12 km of endless sandy beach and the cooling waves of Laholmsbukten. Follow your way through Hallands Kustvag, the beautiful coastal road between Halmstad and Falkenberg, and camp with sea views in one of Halland's prettiest spots on Ugglarps Campground† Or spend the night at the popular family campsite Haverdals, within walking distance of the soft sandy beach with shallow clear blue water and high dunes.
Lake Åsnen in Småland is a unique part of Sweden with 700 kilometers of coastline and more than a thousand islands. In the northern part of the lake you will find Åsnen National Park, a favorite with nature lovers. To minimize the burden on nature, you can enjoy a sustainable holiday just outside the park.
New this year are the Destination snen e-bikes that allow you to discover the area around Lake Åsnen. The bicycle rental works according to a drop-on drop-off system, with which you can leave or pick up the bicycle at various points. Bicycles can be pre-booked online. Camping is possible on the hold 11 campsites around Lake Åsnen, just outside the borders of the national park. In addition to camping with the tent, you can rent camping cabins and stugas at the campsites Urshult, Make it en Getno Lake Asnen Resort.
If you really want to go back to basics, spend the night at Hatteboda Wilderness Camping, a wilderness campground that lives up to its name. Here you will spend the night in a setting of fragrant pine trees and clear lakes, but without electricity or running water.
Family camping
Vimmerby, the birthplace of writer Astrid Lindgren, is an ideal destination for families with children. Here you will not only find the popular theme park Astrid Lindgrens Wereld, but also the moose park Virum Älgpark and the highest climbing park in Scandinavia Vimmerby Adventure.
The area with the typical red houses and endless forests and lakes exudes the atmosphere of Pippi Longstocking, but is also a wonderful nature destination. Vimmerby Camping is located directly on Lake Nossen, just outside the city center. Also with Norje Boke Camping on the coast of Blekinge the children will have a great time. Here you will find many activities that are dominated by pirates and Pippi.
Prefer to find some peace and quiet? That is also perfectly possible here: the archipelago of Blekinge with dozens of islands is practically on the doorstep.
Camping in a historic setting
Located within cycling distance of the UNESCO World Heritage city of Karlskrona Dragsö Camping & Stugby† Not only an ideal base for a trip to Karlskrona, but also a mecca for anglers. Karlskrona's naval port dates back to 1680 and is a unique relic of Sweden's time as a major power. Or spend the night on Kristianople Resort, where you camp on the historic site of charming Kristianopel on the border with Småland. This site is surrounded by a high 17th century wall that dates back to when Blekinge was part of Denmark. Here you will find fortifications from the 16th century and a beautiful church from 1624.
Sustainable with Scandlines
With 60 departures per day, southern Sweden is easily and flexibly accessible with the ferries from Scandlines† And preferably as sustainable as possible… Scandlines uses ferries that are powered by environmentally friendly hybrid engines. In addition, a wind propulsion technology has been developed to further reduce the CO2 emissions of the hybrid ferry “Copenhagen”, which sails on the Rostock-Gedser route. Since May, a second ferry "Berlin" with a rotor sail has also been sailing on this route. With the installation of a rotor sail, the shipping company is breathing new life into the nearly 100-year-old Flettner rotor concept and investing in environmentally friendly wind propulsion technology.
