Less than an hour and a half drive from Bern you will find this beautiful city, internationally known especially among music lovers. We are talking about Montreux. Home to Freddie Mercury and the iconic Montreux Jazz Festival.

Be surprised on a city trip Montreux
Montreux is worth a visit just because of its unique location on Lake Geneva and a 360 degree view of impressive mountain landscapes. But also a perfect location for trips to the famous Swiss cities of Geneva, Lausanne and Bern. But there are so many more reasons to go to Montreux.

City trip Montreux
Where better to start your visit to Montreux than on the beautiful boulevard. Here you imagine yourself directly in the Mediterranean. Because let's face it, when you think of Switzerland, do you think of a boulevard full of palm trees, tropical colored flowers and sun-drenched terraces? The boulevard is about 11 kilometers long and you can walk from terrace to terrace. Don't be alarmed when a busload of tourists tries to take a selfie with the life-size bronze statue of Freddie Mercury. He is immortalized here as one of the most famous inhabitants of this beautiful city.
Tip:: you can have a drink at the L'îlot Bar, or score a takeaway and enjoy the signature circular terrace in the water opposite the statue of Freddie Mercury.

Things to do in Montreux
One of the most popular attractions among music lovers in Montreux is the Queen Studio Experience† Queen has recorded no less than 7 (!) albums in the famous Mountain Studios here in Montreux. Here you can view different costumes, handwritten lyrics, and get started with the music yourself.
Tip:: The former music studio has been transformed into a small museum and is part of the Barriere de Casino.

Charlie Chaplin's World
The unique location of Montreux had not only captured the heart of Freddie Mercury, Charlie Chaplin also fell in love with this special city. He was therefore the proud owner of a beautiful estate just outside the city. This estate has since been transformed into a beautiful museum that was even voted 'best museum' in 2018 according to the European Museum Academy. Not to be missed for all film lovers among us.
Chateau de Chillon
Do you care more about history than about music and visual arts? Then the Chateau de Chillon might be a hit for you. This centuries-old castle has been one of Switzerland's most popular historic tourist attractions for years. The castle is definitely worth a visit and the guides are happy to tell you all about its history. Do you come here on a summer day? Be sure to bring your swimwear. It is possible to swim a round around the castle. Too much of a good thing? Then look for the 'secret' beach next to the castle. Your view doesn't get much more beautiful in Montreux.
Discover the varied nature of Montreux
We wrote it before, but Montreux's unique location makes it a real mecca for sports enthusiasts. For example, 20 minutes away you will find the picturesque village of Vouvry. The starting point of the spectacular hike to the peaks of Le Grammont. A physical challenge with an incredibly beautiful reward at the top in the form of a magnificent view over almost the entire Lake Geneva.
Do you want more excitement than a 'normal' hike? Then you can reach the Glacier 3000 from Montreux in no time, where you can walk over a 107 meter long suspension bridge. Detail, that suspension bridge connects 2 mountain peaks at an altitude of more than 3.000 meters. Not for anyone with a fear of heights.
