Taking care of your body while traveling

Many people have a routine at home for taking care of their bodies. Take a shower every day, put on clean clothes and wash your hair regularly. But when you travel, things are a little different. In this article we look at body care while traveling.

Taking care of your hair

There is a good chance that you will go to a sunny area during your trip. If this is the case, your hair is exposed to a lot of sunlight. As a result, your hair will quickly become dry and barren. You can buy special shampoo and conditioner that help care for and repair your hair.

Do you, like me, love natural skin care products? Then is coconut oil or olive oil a super good alternative. How does it work? Wet your hair and massage the oil on your scalp and hair tips, wrap a cloth around your hair and let it soak in for a few hours, then wash your hair with shampoo. And voilà your hair is nice and soft again.

In addition, it is recommended that you regularly wear a hat or cap to protect your head. This is also part of care!

Taking care of your skin

Sunburn, sunburn and more sunburn. A mega essential product to use while travelling. Because let's admit, we Dutch quickly turn into red lobsters when we spend a few hours in the sun. So take good care of your skin and regularly apply a high factor. In addition, give your skin the chance to recover from the sun by wearing a thin shirt with long sleeves, or taking a seat in the shade.

Taking care of your teeth

It is important to take good care of your teeth while on holiday. No one wants a painful dental visit after a long journey because you have poorly cared for your teeth. Take a good electric toothbrush with you when you travel, and brush your teeth twice a day with it. Yes, even if you come back from a party at night. On Paarshuis.nl Can you compare electric toothbrushes?

Tip: When traveling, do not brush and rinse your teeth with tap water, but with mineral water (from a bottle). Tap water abroad can contain a lot of bacteria, and even the smallest intake can cause problems.

wash yourself

An obvious care measure: wash yourself, especially your hands, regularly. Of course you wash your hands after every toilet visit, but even if you have been in busy places where many people use the banister, for example, it is recommended to wash your hands regularly.

Tip: make sure you always have a bottle of disinfecting hand gel with you. When there is no tap water nearby, you can use this to clean your hands.

Then there are situations where you cannot wash yourself for a number of days, such as during a multi-day hike. To refresh yourself you can use 'body gloves'. These are soft, moist, perfume-free washcloths. This way you can continue to take care of your body. The wipes are for single use and should be thrown away afterwards.

Wash your clothes

Clean clothes, we'll put it under the list of body care. How do you take care of clean clothes while traveling?

When you travel for a longer period of time, you should wash your clothes regularly. In many towns and cities you can use a local laundry service. It's as simple as it sounds: you hand in your dirty clothes, it's cleaned for you, and a day later you get your clean clothes back. One drawback: You won't be the first to see broken or even missing pieces of clothing.

A second option is to wash your clothes yourself, which is immediately a lot cheaper. All you need to bring is a washing block and a clothesline. Both passes take up little space in your backpack, an easy way to take care of your clothes.

During my 6 month tour through oa Costa Rica, Nicaragua en Panama, I washed my clothes about every three weeks. Just scrub clean at the hostel sink and hang up. Crazy? No, you're not the only one who does this. Many hostels even have a special laundry area with clothesline that you can use.

Make-up

Make-up fits, if you ask me, in the context of things that are better left at home when traveling. First of all, because it is often too hot so that your make-up sweats off quickly, in addition, you will regularly jump into the water. This quickly makes wearing make-up unnecessary. Plus, there's no one you know on vacation anyway, so who cares! And how nice is it if you don't have to stand in front of the mirror for half an hour in the morning to make up your face?
