Benin, officially the Republic of Benin, is a country in Africa with an area of 114.763 km² and a population of approximately 12,8 million. The official capital is Porto-Novo, but the economic capital and largest city of Benin is Cotonou.

Benin is an elongated country with only a small coast. The largest cities of Benin can be found on this coastline because of the accessibility by sea and the fishing industry.
