French Guiana is not an everyday destination for backpackers and travelers, but I wouldn't be a world traveler if I skipped the relatively unknown country. I therefore decided to explore the country, where hardly any tours...
French Guiana
French Guiana is a French overseas department on the northern coast of South America. It is the largest area of the European Union outside Europe. It borders Suriname to the west and is further surrounded by the Brazilian state of Amapá.
Because French Guiana officially falls under the French Empire and therefore follows the Euro exchange rate, it is one of the most prosperous parts of South America. This, combined with the fact that the country is difficult to travel to, makes it a relatively expensive country to travel.
Outside the capital Cayenne you will still find original residents and traditional culture. French Guiana is difficult to reach due to the dense jungle and therefore not touristy. All the more beautiful and exciting for adventurers!
