Most challenging expedition in Peru

Back with a vengeance, it will happen again in June 2024: the Amazon Canoe Challenge. An expedition that is considered one of the toughest adventure challenges in Peru. The participants navigate about 300 km through the Amazon rainforest in a traditional canoe, crossing Manu National Park in the Madre de Dios region in eastern Peru. The Amazon Canoe Challenge is an epic experience and only for those with the right experience, fitness, skills and personality to take on this adventure. It is not a guided tour, participants find their own way through the checkpoints.

Paddling meandering rivers through lush rainforests in traditional canoes is an unparalleled way to experience the untouched nature of the Amazon. But also to get to know the local residents. Such as the Machiguenga or Yine tribes and the indigenous community of Mashco Piro.

To make this adventure possible for less experienced paddlers, Amazone Canoe Challenge also offers 2-5 day guided canoe trips in the tropical rainforest. The trips are often guided by local guides and experts who take participants on an unforgettable experience among exotic flora and fauna and past local communities.

The income from the Amazon Canoe Challenge partly benefits sustainable projects to support the local population.

Quarry Trail, new alternative to the Inca Trail

Good news for people who prefer to stay on dry land. Discover a new route through the Sacred Valley in the Cusco region. The Quarry Trail is a new route along lesser-known Inca trails and promises an authentic experience away from the crowds. The route crosses picturesque mountain villages, impressive terraced plateaus and offers panoramic views of the majestic Andes. It is a challenge for hikers who want to discover the untouched beauty of Peru, off the beaten track with the Perolniyoc Cascade waterfall, the 4.450-meter Kuychicassa Pass and a sun gate overlooking Ollantaytambo as highlights. The route ends in Ollantaytambo. From there you take the bus or train to Aguas Calientes for the visit to Machupicchu.

The process was made possible in collaboration with local communities. Hikers do not need permits for the 26 km long multi-day tour. This makes a third alternative to the busy Inca Trail available in addition to the Lares and Salkantay Trail.

Peru, with its diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage, has much to offer adventure seekers, nature and culture lovers. From the historic sites of the Incas, the impressive flora and fauna of the tropical rainforest, the colonial heritage in cities such as Lima and Arequipa, or the colorful traditions of Cusco or Lake Titicaca in the Puno region.
