1. The Bay of Kotor
Our introduction to Montenegro started in the enchanting Bay of Kotor (Location here). Surrounded by impressive mountains and dotted with charming towns that reflect the country's rich history, it was Kotor with its medieval city walls and winding alleys, a beautiful start to our trip.
Together we wandered through the old town of Kotor, getting lost in cobbled streets and discovering hidden squares and historic churches. Climbing the city walls led us to the top of the hill, where we were rewarded with breathtaking views of the bay and surrounding mountains.
Around the Bay of Kotor there are several picturesque villages that reflect the charm of Montenegro. Perast (Location here), with its baroque architecture and views of the two offshore islands, offered an escape from the hustle and bustle of the larger cities. Budva (Location here), a medieval town where we strolled through the narrow streets and where we were surrounded by centuries-old stone buildings and lively market squares. The smell of local delicacies filled the air and enticed us to taste Montenegro's culinary treasures. Also the island, which has been converted into a luxury resort Sveti Stefan (Location here) is worth a visit.
From the Bay of Kotor we headed to various monasteries that adorn the country. It Ostrog Monastery (Location here), carved into the rocks of the mountain Sharp, was a masterpiece of architecture and spirituality.
As we walked through narrow corridors and the ancient frescoes admired, we felt a deep connection with the spiritual history of Montenegro and with each other. But not only the famous Ostrog Monastery is worth a visit. Spread throughout the country you will find many (small) monasteries where you as a visitor will be warmly welcomed.
2. Durmitor National Park
Our journey continued to the majestic Durmitor National Park (Location here). Located in the northwest of the country, this park is a highlight for nature lovers and adventurers. This park is dominated by imposing mountains, lush forests and glittering lakes. The fresh mountain air filled our lungs as we explored the various hiking trails for four days. From short walks to a lake to long day walks to the heart of this beautiful national park.

For those who like some action, you can also zipline over the gorge and the river.
After these adventurous days we rested on the banks of the river Black Lake (Location here), which lies like a mirror between the mountains. The silence on the lake, broken only by the soft sound of rippling water, provided a magical experience that we will cherish for a long time.
3. Biogradska Gora National Park
From Durmitor we continued our journey to it Biogradska Gora National Park (Location here), known for its ancient forests and crystal clear lakes. We walked among the centuries-old trees and enjoyed the unspoiled nature that this park had to offer.
The highlight of Biogradska Gora is undoubtedly the Biogradsko Jezero (Location here), a lake that lies like a mirror in the park.
From Biogradska Gora we made our way to the picturesque Bukumirsko Lake (Location here), a hidden gem located in the middle of the mountains. This remote lake has few visitors and the road to it ensures that this will not change quickly. Once we arrived we felt like real explorers who had revealed a well-kept secret.
