Bali introduces ban | Naked tourists face jail time

TRAVEL NEWS – 29 August 2023: Naked tourists in Bali can be punished with prison sentences of up to 3 years. This is felt to be necessary as numerous examples have been seen in recent years of travelers showing clear disrespect for Bali's natural and spiritual resources, says CNN. Also there are measures taken to ban topless sunbathing and extremely small bikinis on the island.

It often goes wrong

Last year, a Russian influencer was deported after she photographed herself naked on an ancient sacred tree. Earlier reason two naked tourists on a scooter into the pool naked. In March, a tourist was also deported after a half-naked photo of him appeared Mount Agung had gone viral.

Then in May this year a German tourist nude disrupted a sacred ceremony and even tried to break into a temple, the measure was full. The lady in question is still imprisoned in Bali and risks a prison sentence of no less than 2 years and 8 months.

Tourists were not allowed to climb sacred mountains for some time

The mountains of Bali are of spiritual value. The reckless behavior of tourists during excursions prompted the authorities to impose this restrictive measure. The naked photo report of the Russian tourist accelerated this process.

It was decided earlier this year completely bar tourists from all 22 sacred mountains on the island. Immediate measures were also taken that make it possible to immediately expel those who do not respect this restriction. Even on the famous pre-sunrise hike Mount Batur, a very popular tourist activity, fell under the ban. Fortunately, the measures have been relaxed again in recent months. Most tour operators now offer excursions again to various sacred mountains and volcanoes in Bali.

Up to 3 years in prison

While some may see the various measures as necessary to preserve the island's environmental and cultural value, others may be disappointed. More and more places in Bali are in danger of being closed to tourists. And let this be many of the most beautiful and unique places.

With the newly announced prison sentences of up to 3 years, the Indonesian government is trying to deter tourists. Don't go wrong. Risk the nature and culture of Bali. You will pay (considerably) for it if you don't do this.
