Everyone knows that the Maldives is pricey, but if you look closely you will see that it can also be much cheaper. Such a luxury resort is beautiful to see, only you usually pay the main price to stay a few days. In addition, it is often also the case that there is only one provider for excursions on the island, so that they can determine the price for the activities they offer. How can you put together a cheap trip to the Maldives? Combine a trip to the Maldives with, for example, a trip to another country, stay on a budget-friendly backpackers island or save on your plane tickets by being flexible about travel dates.

Combine a trip to the Maldives
Do you want to go to the Maldives? Then I advise you to combine this with a trip to another country. This is the cheapest option and often also great for a change. This is how we combined our three-week trip to Sri Lanka with the Maldives. We started our trip in Sri Lanka and flew from Colombo to Male to enjoy the last 5 days of our holiday here. Personally, we also found this to be a good combination in terms of variety culture and beach/relaxation. The connection from Sri Lanka to the Maldives is very good, but other Asian countries are also very popular for this paradisiacal place to combine. Take for example Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) or Thailand.

Budget friendly backpackers islands
In addition to the many luxury resort islands, there are also islands in the Maldives that are very popular among backpackers. For example, we stayed on the backpackers island of Mafuushi. A small, but attractive island with several hotels. On this island you pay for an overnight stay between €30 and €180 per night. So you can choose how luxurious and expensive you want to make it. To reduce costs even more, I advise you to travel together! This way you can easily split the costs! Besides Maafushi, the islands of Fulidhoo, Thulusdhoo and Guraidhoo are very popular and also islands where you can stay for a reasonable price.
