Studying in Australia, your chance to live here for a long time

Many people from all over the world are flying to Australië to work there on a Working Holiday Visa† This visa gives you the chance to live and work in Down Under for a year. You have the option to get this visa for 1 or 2 years by working for a long time on an Australian farm. In itself this is a very nice option, but not everyone wants to work in the greenhouse or at a banana farmer. In these articles, we explain why studying in Australia might be a good option for you to extend your stay in the country.

Why study in Australia?

However, you are completely used to the fine life in Australia and secretly do not want to go home yet. A nice outcome for this 'problem' is perhaps a not very obvious one: Studying. Studying in Australia gives you the opportunity to stay for a longer period of time. On a study visa you may stay as long as the duration of your study. Moreover, after completing your studies, you will receive an extra two months of vacation.

How much does Studying in Australia cost?

Just like in the Netherlands, you have to pay for a study in Australia. The average study will cost you between $1000 and $1500 AUD per quarter. So in euros you arrive at about 600 to 900 per quarter. This is of course quite some money. The good thing, however, is that you can legally study, live and work in the land of the kangaroo for a fairly long time. Moreover, it is generally known that a completed study abroad is always good for the CV. Please note that you are not allowed to choose the same study as in the Netherlands.

There are also some other costs involved. For example, you have to take out insurance, pay for your visa and deduct the registration costs. Bee Wed Lianne will start her studies in Sydney from February 1, 2021. Fortunately, Thom can also stay on her visa as a partner. For us this means that we had to pay about $2 dollars for a visa of about a year for 5000 people. And in our case, that adds another $1000 per quarter. A fairly expensive joke, which fortunately you can easily earn back by working.

Can you work in Australia with a student visa?

Whether you have built up a savings account or not, income is very nice. Especially in a fairly pricey country like Australia. Therefore, the general rule is that on a student visa you can work a maximum of 20 hours per week during class periods. When you are on vacation, about 12 weeks in the year, you are allowed to work 40 hours a week.
