Sokol Grad (location here), also known as the Falcon Castle, is a historic fortress perched atop a hill just 20 minutes' drive from Pasjaca Beach and 40 minutes from Dubrovnik. This medieval castle is a striking landmark and offers not only a fascinating piece of history, but also beautiful views of the surrounding landscapes. A nice extra attraction if, for example, you have to spend an afternoon or morning before your flight, or if you want to discover more of the Dubrovnik region.

About Sokol Grad
The castle was originally built in the 14th century and served as a defensive fortress. It played an important role in protecting the nearby villages and its strategic position gave it a good view of the surrounding areas. The castle was equipped with thick stone walls, towers and other defense mechanisms to repel invaders.
Step back in time
Today you can visit Sokol Grad and step back in time. As you walk through the ancient corridors and rooms, you get a sense of the rich history and importance of this castle in days gone by. Admire the well-preserved architecture and enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the beautiful Adriatic Sea and the green hills of the hinterland.
Within the castle you will also find a small museum dedicated to local history and folklore. Here you can learn about the people who lived in this region, their traditions, crafts and way of life. A visit to Sokol Grad is a perfect addition city trip to Dubrovnik which you can extend for a day Pasjaca Beach. After some wonderful hours on the beach, the castle offers a unique opportunity to learn more about the history of the region and enjoy a beautiful view. Don't forget to bring your camera, because you'll definitely want to snap some photos of this historic site and the breathtaking scenery that stretches out in front of you. Accessibility from Dubrovnik
Sokol Grad is located about 35 kilometers southeast of Dubrovnik. If you are traveling by car, you can follow the D8 coastal road from Dubrovnik and then follow the signs to Sokol Grad. If you prefer to navigate via Google Maps, use this link for the exact location.

Accessibility from Dubrovnik airport (Tip!)
From Dubrovnik airport it is only 19 kilometers and 20 minutes drive. If you have a rental car that you pick up or drop off at the airport, visit Sokol Grad to pass an afternoon or morning! For example, if you can't check in until later or need to check out early and you're flying later in the day, this is a nice side trip to fill your day, just minutes from the airport. Take advantage of this!
By car or camper
This is by far my favorite way to see Dubrovnik, Pasjaca Beach, Sokol Grad and the surrounding region. Include a visit to Sokol Grad in a big one roadtrip / tour on the one of the most beautiful car routes in the world. The D8 coast road, also known as the Jadranska Magistrala, is Croatia's 600 kilometer long coastal road. This road is rightly seen as one of the most beautiful roadtrip itineraries in the world. With the plane
Did you know that Dubrovnik is easily accessible by plane? Dubrovnik is a relatively small city but it does have its own airport. Flying to Dubrovnik is very easy. Easyjet en KLM fly directly to Dubrovnik from Amsterdam. Expect an average return price of around 200 euros in low season and 400 euros in high season. You can also find cheaper flights via Rotterdam. Transavia has a direct connection with Dubrovnik from Rotterdam. Flight tickets can be booked there from 61 euros (one way), which is certainly worth investigating.
Tip:: Because there are so many variants and companies to compare, it's best to go Skyscanner look for these deals. I don't say this without reason.
Of all the flight search engines out there, Skyscanner namely my best choice when it comes to finding cheap airline tickets and it save money to travel.
For absolutely all the cheap tickets I buy, I use Skyscanner's website – which does not mean that I always book with them. I wrote an extensive article about finding the best deals. I literally save thousands of euros every year with this.

By bus
You can travel very cheaply in Croatia by bus. Dubrovnik has a central bus station which is very well connected to other bus stations across the country. Buses are easy to travel on if you don't have a car. Flixbus is also active in Croatia.
Conclusion
Sokol Grad is a unique castle in a unique place. It is not a place where you will stay for hours, but the castle is definitely worth a visit, partly due to its special location and history. If you are in Dubrovnik or the surrounding area for several days, or Pasjaca Beach want to visit, drive a little further to also visit Sokol Grad. It won't disappoint!
