The hospitality of Dimitris and his family is immediately noticeable and it immediately gives an extra dimension to a journey on the untrodden paths of Greece. Staying here feels authentic, much nicer than the large hotel chains where you are just a number. Also important: it is a very affordable resort, the location is great, the rooms are clean and spacious and the view from the balcony is fantastic!
4. Taste local delicacies (no, not gyros)
One of the highlights of any trip is discovering local dishes. Forget the gyros and fries, in Tzoumerka you will experience real Greek cuisine! Every meal here is a celebration. Often I didn't know exactly what I ordered, but every time it was delicious. Don't forget to enjoy too Tsipouro (local brandy), the local olive oil and the delicious feta that make Greek cuisine an unforgettable experience.

Did you know… In this part of Greece no Ouzo is drunk, however Tsipouro? It is a strong distillate that has similarities with Raki and Ouzo, but otherwise tastes completely different. It is locally produced and made from grapes – give it a try!

It is not just a fun adventure on the water with a group. While rafting you will also stop several times to admire hidden waterfalls. Rafting was one of the highlights of our trip in Tzoumerka and I can therefore recommend it to everyone. Go for it!
7. The Souda Waterfalls
A natural masterpiece not to be missed! The Souda Waterfalls (location here) are an oasis of peace and beauty. From the parking lot it is only a short hike of about 20 minutes to the waterfalls. Stand in the spray of the waterfall for summer refreshment or even better: take a refreshing dip in the water and admire the brute force from a unique angle!
8. Rema Marks waterfall
The Rema Marks waterfall (location here), is another enchanting spot in Tzoumerka National Park. After a short hike of +- 20 minutes you will find yourself in a true oasis, a green paradise hidden in the forests of Tzoumerka.

9. Winding mountain passes
It is best to explore this area with a (rental) car. It actually makes little difference which route you take through Tzoumerka National Park. The roads wind upwards here and after every mountain or hill you are treated to a new, fantastic view. Due to the high altitude, the weather and climate here also seem to change every 10 minutes. It's a pleasure to drive around here!

When is the best time to visit Tzoumerka?
The best time to travel for Tzoumerka National Park is as far as I'm concerned March to June en September to November. In these months it is comfortably warm, the sun shines a lot, but it is not too hot - although it can get very warm in June. The summer months of July and August are also popular, but usually very warm and therefore less suitable for long walks in the mountains, for example.
How do you get there?
Tzoumerka National Park is located in the mountainous interior of Greece, far from the tourist attractions. You can explore the area very well by car or camper visit during a beautiful tour but if you have less time, there are also some airports nearby.
